Blue Rodeo + Broken Social Scene

Two new docs directly related to two of my books: Blue Rodeo: Lost Together and Broken Social Scene’s It’s All Gonna Break, about artists featured in Have Not Been the Same and Hearts on Fire, respectively.

The Blue Rodeo film is now streaming on CBC Gem or on YouTube (the above link has the full film), and still playing select theatres. The Broken Social Scene film screens in Hamilton on March 18 at the Playhouse; no streaming plans yet I’m aware of.

I saw them both at the (yes, reopened) Hot Docs Cinema. To state the obvious: all music docs look and sound better on a big screen.

I’m incredibly grateful both films exist, both as a fan and as a Canadian music historian — and at this particular point in precarious Canadian history. They’re both essential documents for very different reasons.
