I was one of the first to write about Hawksley Workman, back in 1999, in this review for Exclaim! magazine, comparing him to a “less overbearing Rufus Wainwright or a new wave power pop band fronted by Rheostatic Martin Tielli.” In 2000, I wrote about him again for Exclaim!, in an article headlined “Hawksley Workman takes his pants off,” in which he talks about his lyric “singing is about sexual confidence.”
